Receiving-sets, construction of.-A wireless receiver, detachably or fixedly mounted in a carrying case is capable of being transferred to a home cabinet, means being provided to connect the receiver to separate sources of current supply within the carrying case or the cabinet respectively. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the receiver proper, which may comprise a loud-speaker, is housed in the casing A adapted to slide into a home cabinet, the upper portion B<3>, of which may contain a gramophone, while recesses B<4>, B<5> receive aerial inductance and an output filter, the batteries or mains unit being housed in the lower part of the cabinet. The carrying case may be fitted with a frame aerial. The receiver is connected to its supply batteries and aerial by contact strips on its sides engaging contact plungers on the cabinet or carrying case, two contact trips on the top providing connection to a gramophone pick-up. In an alternative form, Figs. 5 and 8, the receiver in a portable case A slides inside the home cabinet the batteries or supply unit being housed in the space behind the receiver. The portable unit, is fitted with batteries from which connections are taken to leaf contacts G'. Similar contacts F<1> for the receiver are connected to contacts G<1> by metal strips H carried on a hinged flap R<1>, which is raised when the receiver is in the home cabinet, thus permitting connection of the receiver to plunger contacts W<1> in a contact bar W which is mounted in the cabinet. Manually-operated plug and socket connections may be fitted between the home cabinet supply source or portable batteries and the receiver. The frame aerial L may be connected to an external aerial to minimize its directional effect when used in the home cabinet, or alternatively it may act as a secondary to a tuned or aperiodic primary inductance LP on a fixed frame LP<1> in the cabinet. Fig. 4 is a connection diagram for the receiver, the circuit connections marked 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 being established when the receiver is inserted in the home base, while the connections shown in Fig. 4 and made in the portable case. Volume control for the wireless reception or gramophone reproduction, is effected by the knob X, controlling alternatively a resistance X<1> across the pickup coil P, or the detector grid leak X<2>.
