Abstract
330,923. Brinjes & Goodwin, Ltd., Seaman, C. F. N., and Atherton, F. March 18, 1929. Roller and roller-and-breast mills; disc and like mills; conical mills.-In a roller and/or other grinding mill, one grinding member can be maintained and locked in operative relationship with its associated grinding member by a cam or cams adapted to act on the grinding member through a slidable rod or rods either directly or through a lever or levers pivotally connected with the rod or rods, the cam or cams being angularly displaceable to allow of a quick release of the associated grinding members and rectilinearly displaced to allow of separation of the grinding members as a result of the passage of foreign bodies therebetween. The slidable roller 1, Fig. 1, is pressed against a fixed roller 2 by a spring 28 which abuts at one end against the framing 7 and at the other against a flange 37 screwed on a tubular stem 50. A lug 88 on the flange is guided in a slot 39 on the framework and the compression of the spring is adjusted by turning the stem 50. The stem 50 passes through a bore in the mill frame and its outer end is screwed to receive a slotted bracket 48 and lock-nut 49. One or more cams 42 is or are mounted in the bracket 48 and are turned by a lever 16 which is locked in position by a ratchet 47. The cams bear on a rod 41 passing through the tubular stem 50 and position the rod relatively to the bearing 4 so that the clearance between the rolls may be adjusted to any position by movement of the cams. When unbreakable material passes between the rolls, the roll 4 moves apart and by means of the rod 41, cam 42, and tubular stem 50 compresses the spring 28. The roller 3 is pressed against the roller 2 by a rod 33 through a lever 30 and spring-actuated rod 14. The rod 14, Fig. 2, passes through a tubular member 26 slidably mounted in an extension 10 of the main frame. The extension is bored out to receive a spring 28, and a flange 29 screwed on the member 26 and prevented from turning by a lug 29<a>, is moved along the tubular member to adjust the compression of the spring. A pair of cams 12, fixed to a 'hand-lever 16, are pivoted by a pin 13 to the rod 14 and bear against a loose flange 23 provided with a thrust bearing 25, the position of the flange relatively to the rod 14 being adjusted by a screwed sleeve 24. The cams 12 are locked in position by a pawl 20 engaging a ratchet wheel 27 so that by releasing the cams the pressure on the roller 3 is also released. The rod 41, Fig. 1, may act on the footstep bearing of a conical grinding mill or the lever 30 and rod 14 may support the footstep bearing of the spindle of a disc mill or vice versa.
