Abstract

330,138. Meadows, C. L. June 4, 1929. Fluid pressure.-The brakes on cars which fail to release on increase of train pipe pressure arereleased by opening the bleed cock E of the auxiliary reservoir B by means of a cylinder 2 connected by a branch line 7 with an auxiliary air line 1, a valve 8 in the branch line being opened by an arm 10 when the brake piston moves to apply the brake. Air is admitted by a driver's valve to the line 1, and if the brake piston has not moved to release position, can pass through the valve 8 and operate the valve E by means of the cylinder 2. When the brake pistons move to release position the valve 8 will close and the branch 7 will be connected by a bleed passage to atmosphere in order to bleed the cylinder 2 and reclose the valve E. Each section of the main line A is connected to the line 1 by a pipe 17 so that by opening a valve 18 in this pipe main line air may operate the bleed valves. Cocks 19, 21 on the auxiliary and main lines respectively are connected by a link 20.
