Sleepers, metal; rails, guard; sleepers, securing rails to.-Rails are secured to metal sleepers con. sisting of a pair of elements with splayed ends hy fittings which pass between the elements and engage their lower edges. The elements a, b may consist of angles, channels, T-sections, or old rails, and when assembled form substantially a T-section. The securing-bolts d have lugs d' embracing the edges of the flanges f and knifeedges d<2> engaging indentations in the flange edges. The bolts may also consist of U-bolts or eye-bolts with loose knife-edge insets. The rail clamps e may have similar knife edges e<2>. A guard rail i may be similarly secured. The indentations in the sleeper may be made by a cold chisel or by a tool consisting of a hardenedsteel bolt and clip assembly. The sleeper and fittings may be galvanized. The Provisional Specification states that for additional security the sleepers may have a cover plate with points or knife-edges, or with serrated flanges engaging serrations on the edges of the top flanges of the sleeper.
