Abstract

329,580. Hamilton, C. E. Aug. 8, 1929. Ironing-machines with rollers rotating against concave surfaces.-To keep the padding 12 which is wrapped around the roller of an ironing- machine in position, substantially semi-circular guard members 15 are arranged at intervals along the roller over the exposed portion thereof. The guard members are preferably of resilient material and each may be yieldingly urged towards the roller by means of a spring 19 confined between the guard and an overhead rod or tube 17 through which pass pins 16 rising from the guard and passing through the springs 19. The lower portion of the guard at the delivery side may be formed with an integral or pivoted toe 20 for directing the goods to an adjacent. roller. When the toe is pivoted it is pressed away from the guard by a spring 23 to a position limited by a stop 24. Stripper members 30 are loosely carried on and depend from the rod or tube 17 and alternate with the toes 20. To allow the strippers to be raised without fouling an adjacent roller they may be formed in two portions pivoted together as shown. A weight may be carried on the strippers which coact with the earlier rollers of a series. Each stripper may comprise a single finger or two fingers secured to a yoke pivoted to the upper part, and in the latter case the guiding toes 20 instead of being formed on the guards 15 may be formed on the yoke or may be supported on a stiffening cross piece connecting the two fingers. The final rollers of the series may be of slightly greater diameter than the earlier rollers, whereby they rotate with a greater peripheral speed so that tension is put on the goods passing through the machine.
