Abstract

328,513. Decombe, G. Oct. 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 241,170. Reels.-In the metal cable reel described in the parent Specification, the drum h is supported between the end discs b, g, by flanges formed in the discs by raised portions c and cup-shaped serrations u also formed in the discs by cutting slits x, y therein and then pressing-out the adjacent parts to the required extent. The drum is provided with an opening 2 through which the inner end of the cable is passed into and through an opening n in one of the end discs for hooding, after which operation the end is pushed back into the drum. A member i having an inclined surface 3 is fitted within the drum adjacent the opening 2 to facilitate insertion ot the cable end and support same. The reel is provided with a corrugated sheet metal cover 4 bearing on bands 12 secured to the periphery of the discs b, g, the ends of the cover being secured by bolts 11 engaging slots 10 in angle irons 9 affixed thereto. The slots 10 terminate in circular holes which receive shoulders 7 on the bolt heads 5 and nuts 6, and the said heads and nuts are made round so that the bolts can only be applied to or withdrawn from the cover by bringing the ends of the cover together by a suitable tool.
