328,450. Wireless Music, Ltd., and lonides, A. G. May 4, 1929. Magnetic instruments. - An electromagnetic vibratory device, more particularly for use in the interconversion of sounds or other mechanical vibrations and electrical oscillations, comprises one or more rollers or balls interposed between the armature supporting means and a pole-piece which co-operates with the armature, or a part connected to the pole-piece, the centre line of the rollers or balls forming an axis about which the magnet system is adapted to be rotated to adjust the position of the pole-pieces with respect to the armature. The construction shown employs an armature and magnet system of the kind described in Specification 299,537 comprising an armature 1 projecting at right-angles from a cross-bar 2 provided with lugs 3 which, together with distance-pieces 14, are clamped to pillars 4 on a base 4<a>. The pole-pieces 6, 7 are united in a single unit by brass side-cheeks 8, 9, the inner ends of the pole-pieces having a small air-gap 10 between them and the depth of the cheek 9 being less than that of the pole-pieces, as shown. The pole-piece unit 6 - - 9 is disposed on the under side of a substantially U-shaped cradle 11, one limb 12 of L-shaped packing-pieces being arranged between each end of the polepiece unit and the under surface of the cradle, the other limb 13 of the packing-pieces projecting downwards in contact with the rear edge of the pole-piece unit. A suitable magnet is arranged with its poles in contact with the pole-pieces, the magnet system comprising the magnet, pole-piece unit and packing-pieces being clamped on the cradle 11 by means of a strap and bolt (not shown). A cylindrical roller 15 is arranged on the projecting surface of each of the pillars 4, the rear surfaces of the rollers bearing against the front surfaces of the lugs 3, whilst, their upper surfaces contact with the under surface of the cradle 11 and their front surfaces bear against the rear faces of the limbs 13 of the packing- pieces. The assemblage is forced together by springs 17 arranged between lugs 16 on the cradle 11 and the pillars 4. An adjusting-screw 18 provided between the base 4a and the cradle 11, as shown, serves to draw the cradle downwards towards the base against the pull of the springs 17.
