Abstract
328,445. Mitchell, W. B. April 30, 1929. Addition to 302,193. Pressing.-Relates to the rotary pressing- apparatus described in the parent Specification and consists in forming each mould so that several articles are produced simultaneously, and in forming each pressing-plunger so that it is used to eject the finished articles from the moulds. The mould consists of a solid body a, Fig. 2, with a removable bottom portion a<1> and a, cylindrical top portion b for receiving the molten glass, the top b being made, as usual, of two parts hinged together. The pressing-plunger c enters the cylinder b and presses the glass through perforations into a number of moulding-cavities formed in the parts a, a<1>. The cavities, in the construction shown, are shaped to form stoppers for bottles. After the glass is pressed, the hinged sections b are opened and the mould is carried by the rotation of the machine to the next operating-position. During this movement, the body a passes beneath a blade which shears off the excess glass d<2>. The bottom a<1> also moves clear of a support f and swings away from the body a. The plunger c is again lowered, and pins c<1>, which project from its lower face, enter the perforations in the upper part of the body a and force the finished articles out of the mould. The sections b are kept closed during the pressing- operation by a yoke h, Fig. 6, as described in the parent Specification. The plunger c is pivoted to one end of a lever k which is pivoted at k' to the frame of the machine. The lever carries a roller k' which is engaged by a cam to operate the plunger. The hinged parts b of the mould are connected by adjustable links to a lever which is pivoted to the frame of the machine and is operated by a fixed cam.
