Protectors, construction of.-A heel, particularly a rubber heel, of the kind having a cavity or space between the tread of the heel and the shoe, has the cavity divided into a number of chambers 2 by partition walls 10. The latter are thickened at the points 6 where the heel-attaching nails or screws pass through the heel. The chambers 2 may surround a central chamber 9. The tread surface of the heel is flat beneath the chamber 9, and convex beneath each chamber 2; or the tread may have a convex marginal strip, which may be thickened to resist wear. The marginal part 1 of the heel has, preferably, an inwardly-widened bearing surface 11.
