Abstract

327,892. Mathys, A. W., (Monroe Calculating Machine Co.). May 17, 1929. Zeroizing - mechanism.-Each wheel of a totalizing or other counter is zeroized by displacement of a pair of pivotally mounted plates about the axis of the counter, a projection on one or other plate being thus caused to pick up a lug rigid with the numeral wheel and bring it to zero position. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the, plates 18, 19 pivoted to a crank arm 17 are shaped at 21 to co-operate with the spindle 14 so as to describe an arcuate path with respect thereto when the shaft 16 is rocked to draw the plates to the right. Each plate has a projection 20 to meet and entrain the lug 15 projecting from the wheel hub and bring it to the zero position as shown in Fig. 3. To prevent locking due to the lug being so placed as to be met by both projections, one of these extends in front of the other and they may be disposed to one side of the point diametrically opposite the zero position. In a modified form, the plates 18, 19 are guided by means of rollers running in cam slots in the partition plate. The invention is stated to be applicable . to the totalizing and revolutionscounters of a Monroe calculating-machine. The first construction being applied to the former counter and the second form to the latter. To raise the counter carriage 2, simultaneously with the operation of zeroizing, the shaft 16 has a cam 29, Fig. 7, to bear on member 30, and the shaft 34, Fig. 6, for zeroizing the revolutions-counters similarly raises the carriage through the cam 33 and intermediate member 39. A pawl 32 engaging the carriage serves to lock the drive while the carriage is raised. The two zeroizing-shafts 16, 34 may be oscillated from a pair of coaxial handles 35, 36, Fig. 5, geared respectively with the shafts, and full-stroke ratchets 31 (see Fig. 7) may be provided. Specifications 27231/12, 157,841, and 216,174 are referred to.
