327,705. Imray, O. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 29, 1928. Samples furnished. Esters of monoaryl or monoaralkyl ethers of dihydric alcohols are prepared by esterifying the free hydroxyl groups of these eithers with acylating agents, the acyl groups of which contain at least three carbon atoms. Examples of compounds prepared in this manner are 1-phenoxy-2- propionyloxyethane, 1 - phenoxy - 2-butyryloxy. ethane, 1-phenoxy-2-iso-butyryloxyethane, 1-phenoxy-2-iso-valeryloxyethane, 1-phenoxy-2- benzoyloxyethane, 1-phenoxy-2-cinnamyloxyethane, 1-pmethylphenoxy - 2 - iso - butyryloxyethane, 1 - omethylphenoxy-2-iso-butyryloxyethane, 1-benzyloxy-2-iso-butyryloxyethane, and 1-phenoxy-3-isobutyryloxypropane. These compounds may be used as perfumes or flavourings. 1-Phenoxy-2- acetyloxyethane is referred to.
