Automatic exchange systems. - In a selector -with two (or more) sets of wipers arranged to hunt simultaneously, the lines engaged in any position are tested in a definite order of priority, there being an individual test relay GA, GB for each set of wipers and the arrangement being such that the first test relay GA is connected to the first test wiper IP over contacts RM when the rotary magnet R operates, the second test relay GB is connected to the second test-wiper 2P over front contacts if GA of the first line is found busy, whilst the rotary magnet circuit is opened by the second (or last) test relay when both (or all) the lines have been found busy. When an idle line is found, the appropriate switching relay HA, HB energizes in series with the corresponding test relay GA, GB, which does not now energize, and locks up independently thereof to the outgoing test wiper. If the selector reaches the end of its bank without an idle line being found, earth over 11th-step springs CSI energizes relay GA, operates an overflow meter OFM over wiper 1P, and completes a circuit over wipers 1P, 2P (the 11th-step test contact being solid) for relay GB which connects up a busy-hold circuit for the release relay B. The initial circuit of relay G includes off-normal contacts of the switch so that when once released it is unable to re-operate whilst the wipers are returning to normal. Test springs are provided which, if connected, complete a buzzer circuit if the second choice wipers are in use. The test relays GA, GB comprise the two coils of a shunt field relay having a split armature, the two coils being mounted on a common yoke which forms part of the magnetic circuit of each relay.
