Indiarubber compositions.-Carbon black suit. able for vulcanization is prepared by treating in the gaseous phase unsaturated hydrocarbons under reduced pressure and in the presence or absence of other gases and vapours or under atmospheric pressure in the presence of other gases and vapours at a low or moderately elevated temperature with a dehydrogenating catalyst comprising a metal of the iron group or a compound thereof. In a vulcanization process, 60 parts of the carbon black are mixed between friction rollers with 100 parts of a sodium butadiene polymerization product, 15 parts of magnesium carbonate, 2 parts of sulphur, 6 parts of stearicacid, 3 parts of a resin and 1 part of mercaptobenzothiazole and the mixture is vulcanized at about 140‹ C. for 40 minutes. In another vulcanization process, 100 parts of a plastic butadiene condensation product are mixed with 25 parts of magnesium oxide, 2.5 parts of sulphur, 0.5 parts of a vulcanization accelerator, and 40 parts of carbon black prepared from ethylene by the process, and the sheet produced is vulcanized at about 140‹ C. for 15 minutes.
