Seed. drills.-A corn and s,eed drill comprises a horizontal distributing drum 12 rotatably mounted an a wheeled frame and provided with apertures 14, a trough 24 arranged under and parallel to the drum, a hopper in the trough under each set of apertures, a delivery tube 25 connected to each hopper, flaps 28, 29 hinged to the edges of the trough to form between them an adjustable slit through which the seeds from the drum pass into the hoppers, and inclined gutters 31, 32 at the sides of the trough to collect the seeds that miss the slit. The drum shaft 11 is mounted in side plates 10 carried by the rear axle 1 and connected by braces 6 to a king- pin 5 on the front axle 3 which is connected by braces 7 to the draught pole 8. The shaft 11 is driven from one of the wheels 2 by spur-gearing normally held out of gear by a spring but adapted to be thrown into gear by a lever which carries an obliquely arranged plate engaging the boss of a movable pinion. The drum is provided with a hinged lid 13, and the apertures 14, arrranged in sets running round the drum, are D-shaped. Inclined partitions in the trough 24 form the hoppers, and coulters 27 are attached to the seed tubes 25. The flaps 28, 29 are movable by means of crank handles 30 to close the slit or adjust it so that the seeds may fall in single files through the seed tubes. The gutters 31, 32 form part of a casing 21 provided with a lid 22. They incline towards one side of the machine and are emptied by opening flaps. Interchangeable drums may be provided.
