Glands and caps; packing, non-metallic; followers, bushes, and the like. - In a rotary petrol pump the shaft packing 14 is spring loaded, the pressure on the spring being increased by screwing down the cap 13. A lining tube above the packing is bell-mouthed at the top to retain the screw-cap on the tube. Petrol collecting in the space beneath the packing is drained back to the suction side of the pump by means of a channel 41.
