Abstract

Open-pan sintering-apparatus.-A grate, particularly for use in ore-sintering pans, has barcarrying frames, which are rocked, when the pan is tilted for dumping, to move some bars in one direction and others in a different direction. The pan is stiffened transversely by beams 5 which serve to support the frames 19 which are carried by pins 21 journaled in brackets 13 secured to the beams, each row of frames extending transversely of the pan. The grate-bars extend transversely of the frames, the end bars 31, 33 resting in recesses in the wall of the pan. The intermediate bars 32 have lugs 42, 48 at one end and a lug 42<1> at the other end. The lug 42<1> and the flange 46 of a frame. are located in the recess between the lugs 42, 48 of the next bar in the line. The bars in the next line are arranged in the opposite way so that the adjacent ends of bars are engaged by the other flange 46 of the frames. Each line of bars has a long end bar 31 and a short end bar 33 having a recess engaged by the end frame and adjacent bar. An arm 26 on each frame engages a heavy slotted bar 28 which slides in guides 29 when the pan tilts and causes the frames to rock. Since one flange of each frame will be raised and the other lowered, alternate lines of bars will be raised and lowered. The end bars will be tilted alternately upwards and downwards.
