Collision guards or bumpers for vehicles are produced from a single metal blank a by punching or otherwise partially severing one or more strips g, which are bent to form integral shockabsorbing members and supports by which the guard is attached to the vehicle chassis. In the case of a front bumper such as is shown in Figs. 1 and 3, four supporting-arms g may be formed near the ends of the guard leaving gaps e, f, while in the rear half-bumper shown in Fig. 5 one supporting arm n is formed by punching out and the other arm q is constituted by a rearwardly bent extension of the blank. The front of the guard may be finished by plating or by attaching thereto strips h of stainless steel, which can be retained in position by engaging end-bolts k, Fig. 8, or by inserting the strips t, Fig. 9, in grooves and securing them by set screws u. In another construction the partially severed arms are displaced rearwardly whilst remaining attached at both ends to the blank. Specification 324,434 is referred to.
