Abstract

325,441. McKendrick, C. May 18, 1929. Golf-practising appliances.-A golf-practising structure comprises an upright target, in front of which is a pitching ground which slopes in every direction to a ball aperture. A teeing ground and a fairway sloping from the teeing ground to the pitching ground are also provided. Cubicles as shown in Fig. 1 are arranged in a building which may also contain lounges, refreshment rooms, &c. A pair of cubicles is shown in plan in Fig. 4. The cubicles, containing teeing and putting grounds, are separated by cambered fairways 9 from the rear wall 7 of the building, upon which may be depicted views of a golf course. These views constitute targets, and may be divided by lines or otherwise for scoring purposes. One target may be common to two teeing grounds, the apex of the cambered fairways then being in. line with the partition 6 separating the cubicles. Each cubicle contains a place 11 for the player to stand, a smooth teeing mat 12, a rough teeing mat 13, a sand box 14, and a putting mat 15. with distance marks a, b, and a putting hole 16. The pitching ground 10 is formed by canvas stretched on frames and slopes everywhere to a hole 18. A trough 19 in front of the target receives balls and delivers them to pockets 23 on the teeing ground by means of conduits 20. The conduits have covered tops, but their sides adjacent the fairways 9 are open to receive balls which are driven on to the fairways. The holes 18 also communicate with the conduits 20 by means of channels 24. A pivoted lever is arranged automatically to distribute balls passing through the holes 18 to the left and right hand conduits alternately. The fairways and targets may be padded.
