325,254. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and Fleming, J. S. B. Oct. 16, 1928. Cellulose nitrates.-Nitrocellulose is freed from water and rendered safe for transport by treatment with a mixture of a liquid substantially immiscible with water such as normal butyl alcohol, toluol, or xylol, and a small quantity of liquid substantially miscible with water, such as ethyl alcohol. In an example 1 part by weight of nitrocotton containing 30 per cent water is treated in a centrifuge with a mixture containing 90 per cent normal butyl alcohol and 10 per cent ethyl alcohol of strength 66‹ overproof until the content of water in the nitrocellulose has been reduced to about 1 per cent.
