Pendulum - weight apparatus; computing- apparatus.-An automatic weighing-scale of the kind employing a pendulous resistant and wherein the scale plate is mounted on a lever system which has connection at one end with a weight indicating mechanism disposed above the scale plate is characterised in that the pendulous resistant is disposed below the scale plate and at the opposite end of the lever system to that which has connection with the weight indicating mechanism. A weighbeam 9, fulcrumed on a knife-edge 10, supports a scale plate 5 at one end and carries at the other end a cradle 16 connected to a rack rod 20 actuating a circular weight-and-value chart 25 secured to an annular weight chart 26. Fixed price and weight indices 28, 27 co-operate with the two charts, and an additional value strip index 71 is automatically brought into view as described below when the weighing capacity is increased. The weighbeam is connected by a link 32 to a lever 33 bearing upon the centre of a yoke 35 coupled by flexible ribbons 36, 37 to a pair of oppositelydisposed pendulums 40<a>, 41a situated below the scale plate. A dash-pot 49 is connected to the weighbeam. In a modification, the pair of pendulums is disposed parallel to the weighbeam. A single pendulum may be used instead of a pair. In a further modification, an horizontal cylindrical indicator is employed instead of the disc charts. Loose-weight apparatus.-The cradle 16 resting on the weighbeam is provided with a pair of jaws 16<b> to receive the trunnions 51<a> of a capacity weight 51 when this is transferred from fixed jaws 52<a> during a capacity-increasing operation. The operation is effected by turning a handle attached to a shaft 54 thereby rotating a fork 53 which engages the trunnions of the capacity weight and effects its transfer, the two sets of jaws 16<b>, 52<a> being brought into correct opposition for the transfer by the action of a linkage 56, 57 upon the weighbeam. A crank arm 61 on the shaft 54, at the same time actuates a rod 62 and rocking arm 65 so as to give a small angular displacement to a disc 67 loosely connected with the two dials. The disc 67 then displays at orifices 25<a>, a new series of weight numerals appropriate to the changed capacity of the machine. An arm 69 projecting from the rod 62 actuates a rod 70 connected to the pivoted value index 71 and moves the index into view as shown in Fig. 2. The values given by the index 71 are added to those taken from the computing chart 25 when the capacity weight is in operation.
