Abstract
324,331. Wheeler, R. H. Oct. 17, 1928. Spray evaporators. -Solutions of salts &c. are evaporated by spraying them into .contact with hot gases the size of the crystals or granules obtained being regulated by adjusting the height through which the spray falls and the size of the spraying nozzles or the effective head under which the solution is discharged. Brine is supplied through a pipe 12 to sprinkler nozzles 9, the height of which can be adjusted in the conical chamber 2 situated in a tower 1. Heated flue gases or air are sucked by a pump 21 through damper controlled flues 4, 5 so that they pass in co- or counter-current with the spray and are led off through damper controlled passages 15, 17 and a condenser 20 to a discharge pipe 22. The entrance of the flue 5 is arranged tangentially in the upper part of the chamber 2 so that a whirling motion is given to the gases. The crystals are collected in a catch pit 23. The orifices 11 of the nozzles 9 are obliquely and upwardly directed and may be arranged in the lower part of the tower 1.
