Cellulose xanthates, processes for making filaments from.-A mixture of a high boiling liquid petroleum or petroleum jelly and a blown animal or vegetable oil or blown oleic acid is added to viscose. Suitable oils comprise blown sperm oil, cottonseed oil, rape oil, olive oil, and whale oil. Threads prepared from viscose treated in this manner possess special dyeing properties in that they are capable of taking up certain dyes, such as Duranol Red and Duranol Blue, which are used for dyeing cellulose acetate but are not taken up either at all or to the same degree by ordinary viscose silk, with the result that multiple colour effects can be obtained.
