Abstract

323,795. Bartlett, G. Oct. 10, 192a. Billiards, teaching-appliances for. - The apparatus comprises two plates connected bv arms so that the angular motion of one plate is transmitted to the other, a director for giving, the line of sight for the stroke being actuated by the relative movement of the plates. The two plates 1, 5, are connected by arms 8 on pivots 9. If desired, they may be pivoted at 9<a> or 9<b> instead of at 9. The upper plate 1 is of oval shape, and has a representation 2 of the object ball, a hole 3 concentric therewith and a protractor region the base of which is tangential to the representation 2. The lower plate 5 is circular, and has a representation 6 of the cue ball and a concentric protractor marking arranged as shown. The upper plate has two projecting pegs 11, 14, the former of which is situated on the periphery of the object ball representation 12 and the latter is situated a distance therefrom equal to the radius of the object ball. The lower plate has also two pegs correspondingly arranged as shown, and each plate has an arrow as indicated. An elastic band 10 embraces the pegs 11, 14, 15, 12, and is collinear with them and with the arrow 13 when a line passing through the centre of the balls is collinear with the line of travel of the object ball. In use, the representation 2 of the object ball is placed concentrically over the object ball, the arrow 13 is pointed in the direction which it is desired the object ball should travel, and the peg 12 is brought into line with the peg 14 and the centre of the cue ball. One of the sides of the band 10 then indicates the line of sight for the stroke.
