Abstract
323,630. Cafferata & Co., Ltd., and Cafferata., B. J. Dec. 22, 1928. Ornamenting bricks.-Bricks made from clay or marl are coloured by immersing them in a solution of a metallic salt or salts after firing and then re-firing them to convert the absorbed salts into colouring metallic oxides. As an alternative the brick may undergo a double immersion, first in the solution of the metallic salt and afterwards in a second solution which will convert the metallic salt into a hydroxide, silicate, or borate. This second immersion is stated to deepen the colour obtained. As an example, the brick may be immersed for 15 seconds in a solution of ferrous sulphate at a temperature of 80‹, and then either burnt direct or immersed in borax, ammonia gas, or ammonium carbonate before burning. Many other examples are given of solutions which may be used.
