Parallel rails and pushers on endless chains; pushers and abutments, means for projecting and retracting. - Conveyers, such as are used in wrapping-machines for moving an article through the machine while the initial folding operations take place, are arranged so that the pusher pieces are caused at certain points in the travel to move in the reverse direction, so as to be disengaged from the open end of the partially formed packet, and thereafter are again moved in the normal direction. The reversing movement is caused by rotatable means, such as sprocket wheels, axially fixed and arranged at intervals. As shown, pusher members 1 are mounted on carriages 2 over endless double roller chains 3 guided by sprockets 5 - - 9. During the horizontal run, rails 13, 15, 16 guide rollers 12, 14 on the carriage and, at the end of the run, when the member 1 is to be disengaged from the open end of the packet, a slot 11 on the forward end of the carriage embraces the shaft 18 carrying the sprocket 6. The rear roller 12 has meanwhile cleared the rail 13 and the carriage is rotated in a clockwise direction into the position shown in Fig. 5, and moves downwards until the rear slot 11 embraces the shaft 20. This causes the travel of the member 1 to be positively reversed in direction. The carriage is again rotated about the shaft 20 prior to moving along the return run.
