Abstract
321,633. McKee, J. May 10, 1928. Medicines for internal and external use.-Oils containing large proportions of assimilable ozone, for internal or external use, are obtained by heating fish, animal, or vegetable oils to remove taste and odour components and to raise the S.G. to 0.970-0.980, and then ozonizing. Oils specified as treated are lard oil, tallow oil, salmon oil, sardine oil, castor oil, cottonseed oil, rape seed oil, corn oil, and linseed oil. Up to 15 per cent by weight of ozone may be incorporated. For example, linseed oil or fish oil is heated in a still 10 to 560‹ F. for about 0.5-2 hours under pressure reduced to 10-15 m.m., by a pump 23. The temperature is then reduced to 150‹ F. and a stream of ozone or ozonized -air passed through until the required percentage is absorbed. The acids, &c. condensed by the condenser 18 and collected in a trap 19 and storage vessel 25 may, after or without any desired treatment, be re-incorporated with the oil, preferably before ozonization. Tasteless and odourless castor oil retaining its cathartic powers may thus be obtained by treating the condensate with steam at 350‹ F. until the taste and odour-producing substances are removed, and then incorporating in the ozonated castor oil in the tank 10. Linseed and like oils may initially be partially oxidized, as by blowing in air at 130‹ F. until the S.G. is about 0.943.
