Abstract
320,398. Eyston, G. E. T. July 11, 1928. Fixed-abutment type; driving pumps, blowers, and exhausters; balancing moving parts.-In a rotary pump in which the axes of the casing and the rotor are a distance e apart the vanes are connected diametrically in pairs and controlled by a crankshaft having a throw e and having its axis situated midway between the above axes, or by a straight shaft of diameter e, similarly situated, which is engaged by rings, attached to the vanes, of internal diameter e rolling thereon, the shafts in each case being supported at both ends; the vane centre moves on a circle of diameter e passing through the axes of the piston and casing. The rings 56 and shaft 55 may have toothed engagement, Fig. 8. Eccentric bushes 60, Fig. 9, or rolling pins 64, Fig. 10, may keep the rings 61 in contact with the shaft 63. The vanes may be geared with the crankshaft through a 2/1 gearing 49, Fig. 7. The vanes shown in Figs. 3 and 4 comprise piston elements 10 moving in cylindrical bores 9 in the motor 1 and formed with extensions 17 having hoods or skirts 21 moving in recesses 22 to prevent escape of oil from the interior of the rotor. The pistons are mounted on gudgeon pins 12 on a rod 11 which is carried at its mid-point on the pin 14 of a crankshaft disposed as above described. Flat vanes' may have ribs to take the stresses and may bear in the rotor slots only at the ribbed parts. The shafts may be supported at one end in an eccentric formation at one end of the rotor and at the other end in the fixed end cover of the casing similarly to the construction in Specification 252,438. A conchoidal casing may be used to give a constant tip clearance for the vanes. The drive may be through the control shaft and the rotating elements may be intergeared. The vane rings 61 may have lugs 67 to engage driving frames 68 secured to the rotor, Fig. 11. The rotor may be driven through gear teeth 4, Fig. 3. The vane pairs are constructed to engage symmetrically with the control shaft. Balancing masses for the vanes and the spacing bushes 60 or pins 64 can be fitted.
