Loud-speakers. - In a loud-speaker comprising a hollow body of ornamental or utilitarian character, a sound-reproducing unit is associated with a tube which delivers sound on to a reflector, the edge of which is united to a wall, forming a closed air-space, constituting an air cushion for the reflector surface. The loudspeaker shown comprises a reproducing unit 1 mounted at the mouth of a sound tube 4 secured on a casing 7 forming the base of an electric lamp fixture. A sound-distributing cone 9 is supported in or over the upper end of the tube 4 on arms 10 which carry brackets 11 for electric lamp bulbs 12. The papier-mache &c. is hollow and closed at the top by an inverted saucer-shaped cover 9<a>, which may be formed integral with the cone and perforated as shown. The cone is preferably adjustable relatively to the tube 4, which may be formed with a number of holes 13 arranged in downwardly inclined rows, and gradually increasing in size from the top downwards. The device may be surrounded by an art shade 16 as shown. A sound tube encircling the unit 1 may be arranged within the casing 7, which may also be provided with holes. The interior chamber of the hollow reflector may be divided into compartments by partition walls. Instead of a lamp, the loud-speaker may take the form of a waste-paper basket, tall vase, &c. According to the Provisional Specification, the hollow reflector may be divided up by partition walls in the interior, and the sound amplifier may be used in conjunction with a gramophone sound-box. The sound tube may also be formed with two branches fitted with an electromagnetic unit and gramophone sound-box respectively with provision for closing one branch when the former is removed.
