Abstract

320,127. Watson, F. M., and Guest & Chrimes, Ltd. Sept. 27, 1928. Float-valves. - Apparatus for regulating the supply of chemical liquors &c. to a water main &c. by the quantity of liquid passing through the main comprises a float 3 actuated by the differences of pressure at the mouth and throat of a Venturi tube 24 in the main passage 22 and acting through a lever 12 to adjust a valve 18 controlling the supplementary supply flowing into the main through a pipe 21. The float 3 is supported on mercury in a chamber 2 closed to the atmosphere and communicating through a perforated base 8 with an outer closed chamber 5, the chambers communicating respectively through pipes 29, 31 with annular chambers 26, 35 surrounding the throat and mouth of the Venturi tube and with perforations 27, 34 opening thereinto. The float level, depending upon the preponderance of pressure in the outer chamber 5, determines the adjustment of the valve 18, which is supported on a cross bar 16 suspended by links 15 from the end of the lever 12.
