Abstract

Checks. - Roll-up fireproof and like doors or shutters of the kind comprising steel battens adapted to be wound up on an overhead roller are provided with a braking device consisting of a vane or vanes K rotatable in a dashpot containing a liquid, the spindle H of the vanes being connected through gearing with the roller on which the door is wound, or with the hoisting spindle A by which the winding mechanism is actuated. As shown the spindle H is in gear with a vertical spindle D which serves to wind up the shutter when the hoisting spindle is manually operated. The friction of the vanes in the dashpot checks the closing movement of the shutter as it unwinds by gravity. The inner surface of the dashpot may be formed with projections or teeth L<1> to increase the braking action.
