Abstract
319,798. Fordham, W. H. March 26, 1928. Magnetic measurements. - A magnetometer comprises a pivotally mounted beam controlled by two magnets of equal moment set side by side with unlike poles adjacent and independently adjustable. The controlling magnets may be arranged on either side of the beam in a horizontal or vertical position with their axes parallel to the vertical plane through the pivotal axis of the beam or to the plane of oscillation of the beam. As shown, Fig. 4, the control magnets h are separately adjusted by rack-and-pinion gear j, k and are housed in a casing c. Separate casings can be employed and the racks and pinions can be replaced by slidable tubes carrying the control magnets.
