Abstract
319,223. Nielsen, H., and Laing, B. May 18, 1928. Discharging.-In apparatus for discharging rotary retorts of the kind comprising alternately operated doors A<2>, B<2> on the retort A and an annular receiving-chamber B respectively, the doors are actuated by electrical means which is so arranged that one door is completely closed before the other begins to open. As shown, the doors A<2>, B<2> are slidable in guides a, b and connected by links d<3>, cross-heads d<2>, and cranks to worm-wheels d' which are rotated to operate the doors, by worms d driven by electric motors D, D mounted on the retort casing. The current supply to the motors D, D from an external source F<3> is controlled by a timing-device F, connected by chain f to the motor C driving the retort, and a control panel F<2>, the arrangement being such that at pre-determined intervals during rotation of the retort the motors D are alternately energized for a sufficient time to effect a complete opening and closing of the respective doors A<2>, B<2>. A clutch is disposed between each motor D and its worm d, and a handoperated emergency switch is provided to effect operation of the doors in the event of the automatic arrangement ceasing to function.
