318,980. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., (Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I.). Sept. 13, 1929. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 14, 1929]. Methyl acetals of diethylene glycol ethers. - The methyl acetal of diethylene glycol ethyl ether .is prepared by passing acetylene into a mixture of the ethyl ether of diethylene glycol with a catalyst prepared by warming mercuric oxide with fluoboric acid until a portion has dissolved. Further additions of mercuric oxide are made from time to time, and when the reaction is complete the product is neutralized, dried and distilled. The methyl acetals of the methyl, propyl, and butyl ethers of diethylene glycol may be prepared similarly.
