With identification marks.-An identification device for a rope comprises a series of labels distributed axially within a protective sheathing which forms either a core for the rope or a yarn therefor. The labels 5 preferably have printed matter on both sides, and are folded into sliver form, and the sheathing 4 is twisted to form a yarn.
