318,372. Ainsworth Manufacturing Co., and Potter, A. T. Aug. 17, 1928. Stays. - The windscreens of motor road vehicles are adjusted by the engagement of a worm segment 7 with a worm shaft 13 mounted in adjustable bearings, the shaft being provided with a ball-and-socket bearing 16 intermediate of its ends and with an end bearing member 24 comprising a cup-shaped member which is supported by a spring 27 and is adjustable against the rounded end 22 of the shaft by means of a screwed plug 26. The ball bearing 16, shown in Fig. 4, is engaged by cup members 17, 18, the member 17 having a stud 19 engaging the casing and the member 18 being adjustable by means of a screwed plug 20. The segment 7 is secured to the frame member 1 of the screen 2 and the casing 3 is secured in position on the frame 6 over the segment, the open side of the casing being closed by a plate 10. Wear of the ball bearing of the shaft is taken up by adjusting the screwed plug 20, the engagement of the worm shaft and sector being effected by adjusting the plug 26.
