Abstract

318,370. Akroyd, H., and Akroyd, H. Aug. 16, 1928. Stands. - A portable stand for electric lamps comprises a flexible, metallic tube 35 connected as by a union 34 to a rigid tube 6 secured to a junction box 15 carried by an inverted U-shaped member 5 pivoted by a bolt 3 with spring washers 14 to a projection 2 integral with, or connected by a vertical pivot pin to, a metal base 1. The tube 35 may have plain portions 36, 37. A tubular support 38, Fig. 8, having a bell-mouth 39, may be secured by screws 40 to the part 37 to prevent the lower coils of the tube 35 from breaking under undue strain, or the tube 35 may gradually taper upwardly and the support 38 be dispensed with. The flex 29 is held in a clamp 23 on the member 5 to prevent it being accidentally disconnected from the terminals in the junction box and an earth wire may also be held in the clamp and passed through a hole in the box to a terminal at the back. A wire guard 43 for the lamp bulb is provided.
