Abstract
318,140. Bullman Machine Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hillmann, H.). Aug. 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Blowing.-Relates to a rotary glass-blowing machine of the kind which comprises a number of mould units carried by arms that radiate from a central vertical column. According to the invention, the central column is dispensed with and the units are mounted on a rotating annular member. The cams that control the working-operations of the units are disposed below the level of the units so as to leave a, central space, unhampered by any column, to which access can be obtained from below the base of the machine. The machine is shown in sectional elevation in Fig. 1<a>, and the lower part of it is shown in plan in Fig. 2. The base of the machine is an annular frame 4 mounted on wheels 5 and formed with a circular groove 6 in which a base ring 8 revolves. The ring 8 supports the moulds and their operating-mechanism by means of a number of vertical frames 9. Each frame comprises a box 10 and two parallel vertical members 11, 12 which are connected at their upper ends to a central-retaining ring 14. The cams that control the working-operations consists of cams 307 on the upper surface of the main frame 4, and other cams 40, 121, 208, and 209 which are attached to the inner surface of the main frame, entirely out of the way of the machine itself. This arrangement of cams inside the main frame allows them to be made sufficiently large to permit easy passage of the cam rollers over transition points. The cams are also in a cooler position, and the machine operator can obtain access to them from a pit beneath the machine when adjustment or replacement is necessary. The machine is of the type which gathers charges of molten glass by suction from a fixed forehearth 2, Fig. 2. Rails 5<1> on which the machine is mounted are arranged at an angle with the front wall of the furnace, so that they approach the furnace wall while they are dipped in the glass. This construction assists in moving the glass from the forehearth back into the furnace. Specifications 287,067, 315,347, and 318,138 are referred to in the description.
