Abstract

318,113. Kreidler, A. Feb. 27, 1928. Extrusion-machines.-An extrusion press is provided with movable dies so that while one is in action the other may be prepared for the next operation. Two or more dies F<1>, F<2>, Fig. 2, may be arranged on a rotating or sliding member adjacent one or more fixed billet containers A<1> each with its plunger D or adjacent two or more billet containers A<1>, A<2>, Fig. 3, carried by a rotating member. The billet may be forced through the die by a plunger as shown in Fig. 2, or a piston C may move the container A<1> over one of the plungers E', E<2> in which the dies F<1>, F<2> are mounted. During this movement a stationary scraper G cleans the container A<2>. The piston C then withdraws the containers by means of a fork H, a fresh billet B<2> being forced into the container A<2> by a stop K. During the rotation of the die carrier the extruded material is severed by a fixed cutter M and the residue behind the die is scraped off by the container. In another modification a die carrier 15, Fig. 1, is arranged to be rotated by a motor 16 which, with the plunger D, is controlled by finger 30 coming into contact with studs' 32 on a disc 31. The cycle of operations is commenced with the carrier at right angles to the position shown so that a billet can be introduced into the container 13. The motor is then started manually and when it has rotated the carrier through 90‹ one of four projections 19 oscillates a lever 20 which, acting through a pawl 23, ratchet 26, and shaft 29, moves the arm 30 on to the next stud 32 so disengaging the motor 16 and starting the plunger D. An arm 35 on the plunger carries a double wedge 87 which at each end of the stroke oscillates one of the levers 39, 42 which acts, like the lever 20, to move the arm 30 on one stud. When the extrusion stroke is finished the movement of the arm 30 causes the plunger D to be returned and the motor 16 to rotate the carrier 15 through 90‹ The next projection 19 then moves the arm 30 causing the motor to be disengaged so that a new billet can be inserted and the operations repeated.
