Abstract

318,101. McEllin, T. J. Aug. 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Packeting eggs in boxes.-Articles capable of rolling, such as eggs, roll from a fixed track 35 on to a series of trap doors 1 arranged at a slight inclination from left to right. The doors are pivoted on a rod 6 between guides 2, and are normally held in the position shown in Fig. 3 by a counterweight 8 and a vertical locking memher 20. At suitable moments, a cam 15 moves an arm 18, and with it the member 20, into the position shown in broken lines. The member 20 then registers with an aperture in the door, which falls into an inclined position and delivers the egg, through a guide 25, into one of a series of divisions 34 in a sectional box 33. The cams 15 are so arranged on the shaft 14 that the doors are unlocked and tilted consecutively, the first egg rolling over all the doors on to the last, which tilts and packs it. The parts are then reset by the counterweights 8, 21. When a row has been dealt with, an escapement device allows the platform 31 to move along the rails 30 so as to bring an empty row of divisions beneath the guide 25. The platform may be moved by a spring, or the rails 30 set at an incline.
