Cable joints.-To prevent oil passing from one cable section to another, multicore oil-filled cables are connected by rods 17 surrounded by tightlywrapped insulation with a binder 18 and forced tightly into flanged openings 16 in a, partition 12 that divides the joint casing 23, 24 into non- communicating chambers. The end of each cable section is bent upwards, uncapped, and sealed by a plug of paraffin or by a dam of cork discs 30 expanded by plates 30<a> pressed together by screws. The insulation is cut away in steps 11 and the base conductor 6 soldered in the socket 19 in the rod 17, the insulation 20, 21 being built up to the diameter of the wrapping 18 and enclosed in metallic strip or braid 22 connected to the metallic tape 8 and to the partition 12. The casing 23, 24 is connected by wiped joints 25, 26 to the intermediate sheath 32 and to a flange 14 on the partition 12. Oil-filling fittings 27, 34 are provided.
