Mats.-A floor covering for permanent or temporary use is made of blocks of wood a, b which are hinged together so that the covering can be rolled up in one direction. The blocks a, b are arranged in staggered relation in adjacent rows, and are strung on bars d acting as hinges for the groups of blocks, which are held together by intermediate bars c. The ends of the blocks abut and are sloped to allow turning on the hinge bars. Pattern is obtained by use of woods of contrasting appearance. Collateral strips of flooring are interlocked by dowels &c.
