Abstract
316,698. Luboshez, B. E. May 11, 1923. Lenses.-Photographic objectives, for use in taking photographs of X-ray fluorescent screens, the X-rays not taking part in the formation of the image formed by the objectives, have a large aperture and consist of a number of simple or compound lenses, one being smaller than the others and nearer to the image plane and close to it. The diameter of the smallest lens is greater than that of the image produced. Each of the several examples described comprises two components, the first being a photographic objective and the second one or more highly curved meniscus or plano-convex lenses with the convex surface towards the incident light. The first component directs the incident rays towards the farthermost aplanatic point of the second component and the latter further converges the rays towards its nearer aplanatic point. Examples comprising a number of single lenses for each second component are described, and a modification, Fig. 4, comprises a second component consisting of a plano-convex lens h and a cemented doublet j. Numerical data are given for objectives with aperture from f/0.73 to f/0.54. In use the complete objective D is fitted in one end of a casing G, the other being closed by the X-ray screen H having a lead button J to prevent the X-rays entering the objective. A chamber A housing the film F and the operating mechanism is attached to the partition E supporting the lens D. The various corrections and adjustments of the objective are described in the Specification.
