Abstract
315,446. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Badischen Maschinenfabrik & Eisengiesserei). March 12, 1928. Drawings to Specification. Cleaning.-In a method of cleaning castings by means of one or more jets of under pressure, one or more orifices of a pipe from which water at high pressure issues are projected directly into the moulding sand adhering to the casting, the orifices being not more than oneeighth of inch in diameter and the pressure of the water at least 1,500 lbs. per square inch. A plurality of nozzles may be employed, one connected to pipe conducting water under high pressure, the others having bores of greater crosssectional area and connected to pipes conducting water under lower pressures. Tools may be mounted on the ends of the pipes for mechanically detaching the mould and core sand, and the casting to be cleaned may be contained in a chamber, the pipe or pipes being passed through an orifice or orifices in the wall of the chamber.
