Gramophone pick-ups; magnetic instruments. -A gramophone " pick-up comprises a U- shaped magnet having a U-shaped electromagnetic yoke adjustably supported on one limb and a pivoted armature, of flat plate form supported on the other limb, the armature being provided with a needle or stylus holder and bearing against resilient material which is compressed more or less in accordance with the adjustment of the yoke. The yoke 2 is adjustably secured in the forked limb 5 of the magnet 1 by means' of a threaded stem 4 and clamping nuts 7. The other limb 8 is also forked and is cut away at 10 forming a shoulder 11. The armature 12, having a holder 13 for a needle &c. 14 abuts against a pad 22 of rubber and pivots about a pair of pointed screws 20 engaging indentations 21 in the armature and mounted in a non-magnetic plate 17 which bridges the space between the poles 19 of the yoke. In a modified construction the armature is carried on pivot points projecting upwardly from a plate of non-magnetic material and the resilient pad lies between the bridge plate 17 and the upper face of the armature. In either case, the pivot points may be carried by the armature; the armature may also have a knife edge pivotal mounting or be mounted on a pivot pin or between centres carried by the limb 8 of the magnet 1.
