Abstract
314,463. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., and Wright, E. P. G. March 28, 1928. Automatic exchange systems. A code-translating register controller is designed to deal with single-letter and two-letter name codes, the single-letter offices having one or more thousands groups (corresponding to the second letters of the twoletter offices with the same first letter) omitted. Relay A repeats the digits over a dialling relay C which energizes the back stroke magnet DD of the digit distributor. If the first two digits are those of a two-letter office, the register controller operates in the ordinary way. In the case of single-letter offices, however, a circuit is made over an extra wiper 1 on the office register W for CR which locks up, causes DD to skip its 3rd position and the thousands register M to move to the position marked by a further additional wiper 2 where it is stopped by CS. Alternatively wiper 2 may be made to control transmission of the thousands digit directly, in which case CR initiates transmission of the route code, which in the arrangement shown waits for the thousands register to move off-normal.
