Automatic e x c h a n g e systems.-In a Strowger-type selector having two sets of wipers, on some levels both sets hunt simultaneously over 20-line. groups whilst on other levels the lines engaged by the two sets are numerically separated. Thus in the group selector shown, for digits 1 - - 7 simultaneous double-hunting occurs; for digits 0, the selector hunts over its upper set of wipers - 1, + 1, T1, only; whilst for the digit 8 selector is first released and connects up its lower set of wipers - 2, + 2, T2, and then responds to a. further digit which must be 1,8,9 9 or 0, hunting then takes place over the lower set only. The invention may also be applied to rotary connectors. Operation for digits 2 - - 7. On these levels springs NP2 operate so that the stepping relay G, energized in the usual way by the change-over relay C, closes a circuit for the wiper-switching relay Q which locks to the test-wiper T1 and connects the stepping relay G to the other testwiper T2. Relay Q is thus energized as long as wiper T1 engages busy lines whilst relay G interacts with the rotary magnet R in the usual way as long as wiper T2 finds busy lines. When either wiper set reaches an idle line, relay G does not re-energize and relay H switches through, relay Q being locked over contacts 3 of H to connect up wipers - 2, + 2, T2, if the line engaged by the other set is busy. Operation for digits 9, 0. Springs NP2 are not closed so that relay Q cannot energize and hunting takes place over test wiper T1 in the usual manner. Operation for digit 8. On this level springs NP1 operate completing circuits for the upper winding of two-step relay DA and for the release magnet Z. When the switch has released, relay DA operates fully and permanently energizes relay Q to connect up wipers - 2, + 2, T2. In response to a further digit 1, 8, 9 or 0, hunting takes place over the lower set of wipers only.
