Abstract

Vapour and vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangements of. - Apparatus for testing the insulation resistance of cables &c. by the application of a high direct-current voltage comprises an insulated transformer winding, a capacity load connected in series with the winding, and a vacuum tube rectifier connected between each end of the winding and the load. In the construction shown, the insulated secondary windings of transformers 18, 19 are connected in series through rectifying valves 20 - - 27 whereby a high voltage direct current may be applied to a cable, shown as a capacity 4. The voltage across each of the rectifiers 21, 22, 25, 26 adjacent to the transformers is equalized by balancing-condensers 28 - - 31 when two rectifying valves are connected to each end of the windings. In order to maintain the proper voltage distribution over the transformer, stabilizing condensers 32 - - 35 are connected either between one end or the centre of the secondary winding and earth, or in parallel with the secondary winding or in combinations of these arrangements.
