Plates, dishes, and the like, washing.-The dishes placed in racks 71, 72 in a vat 4 are washed by liquid splashed upwardly by blades 43 of a rotary impeller 41, the shaft 38 of which is surrounded by a tubular post 40 extending upwardly from the base of the vat to a height above the level of water in the vat as determined by an overflow conduit 50. The base of the vat is of conical shape and has an outlet covered by a filter screen 31 and leading to a chamber 45 in which is located the conduit 50 adapted to close an outlet leading to a waste pipe 48. The conduit is provided with a rod 59 and a handle 60 whereby it may be lifted manually. The vat is detachably secured by bolts within an opening in a sink 7 and is provided with a hinged lid 17 formed with drainage channels 18 leading to a recessed por. tion 1 of the sink when the lid is closed over the vat. The bottom of the vat has an opening closed by a bushing 27 which carries the post 40 and is secured to a ring 28 forming part of the chamber 45. The ring 28 is adapted to support the electric motor 34 which drives the impeller 41. To lessen vibration, the ring 28 is braced against the wall of the room by means including a brace rod 75 and a wall plate 79 provided with a padding ring 80.
