Abstract
313,259. Harrison, E. P. April 16, 1928. Telephonic instruments for deaf persons; magnetic instruments.-A receiving-apparatus comprises an element of magneto-strictive alloy 1 set into longitudinal vibration at acoustic frequency by means of a varying or alternating current passed through the coil of wire 2 wound on it. One end of the element may be secured by hard wax 5 to a tube 4. The other end is placed in contact with some part of the bony structure of the deaf person or is clenched in his teeth either directly or by means of a rigidly attached mouth piece 3. The tube 4 can be a hollow permanent bar magnet or alternatively can consist of non-magnetic material. The Provisional Specification also refers to an electromagnetically operated reed or diaphragm. Specification 17138/08 is referred to.
