Abstract
313,141. Maschinenbau & Schraubenfabrik Akt.-Ges. June R. 1928, [Convention date]. Turning wood-screws-In a device for feeding blanks to a wood-screw cutting machine, particularly a machine having a two-spindle indexable work-holder D for turning and nicking the screwheads, the screw blanks are transferred in succession from a stationary magazine to a chucking position and removed from the chucks on completion by mechanism comprising an arm which is reciprocated in a slide mounted on the end of a cam-actuated rocking lever. The chuck spindles c on the work-holder are arranged at 180‹, the chuck at station Z2 being opened by a bar A actuated from a cam H2 and fresh blanks being inserted at this station by a pusher S actuated by a cam h1. The blanks are placed in a rotary hopper V and liffed by a picker G1, operated from the hopper spindle. The blanks then pass down a shoot formed by a pair of side walls 1 and guide rails 2, 3, and at the bottom of the shoot the blanks are checked by bolts 6 passing through a member 5 and pressed up by leaf springs 7. The member 5 is provided with ledge 5<a> this ledge and a portion of the inner wall 1 being cut away to allow the passage of the gripping arm. Longitudinal shafts 8, 10 are provided with lever arms 9, 11 actuated by cams 13, 14 respectively on the main cam shaft. The other end of the shaft 8 carries an arm 18 provided with a bushing 18<a> in which slides a rod 19 carrying the gripper support 20 and a gripping support 21. Reciprocating movement is imparted to the rod 19 in its bushing by means of a lever arm 23 mounted on the shaft 10 and acting through a connecting rod 22. The gripper consists of a central member 25a an upper member 25b and a lower member 25<c> which are pivoted on a bolt 24 and held together against an abutment 28 by springs 26, 27. In operation the gripper is moved up to the magazine and a screw blank is picked up between the upper and central members and transferred to the chuck at Z2. During the picking up of a blank from the magazine the indexing movement of the workholder takes place, and this brings a completed blank to the position Z2. The gripper is first moved to the postion shown in Fig. 9 where it grips the finished blank between the central and lower members and removes this from the chuck before passing into the position shown in Fig. 10 where the fresh blank is pushed into the chuck. When the gripper moves back to the magazine, the ledge 5<a> engages the finished screw held by the lower gripper member and ejects the screw into a receptacle. For screw-milling machines the pusher is preferably dispensed with and the shafts carrying the arms 18 and 23 are then reciprocated by cams to carry the screws into the chuck. In this case the arms 9 and 11 may either be slidable on their shafts or the cams 13, 14 may be broad enough to permit the longitudinal movement of the rollers 12.
